As some of you may know, my time of living in the great state of Kansas, has come to an end. And my weekends of being semi-homeless are almost over. The majority of my belongings are securely (hopefully) stored in south Kansas City and will be making the move North to Illinois in less than three weeks. Chicago, to be more exact, and Printer's Row, to be more specific. I've been having a variation of this plan for the past year and it's become more real as of December or January when everything was falling in to place. And ever since then, I've been asked the question, "Why Chicago?" Listed below are a few reasons....
1) City Life I suppose some people, like my mother, feel that Kansas City is the big city, but I just don't feel this way. Our downtown has hardly any tall buildings - we have different neighborhoods, but each one is a variation of the next one. Chicago, on the other hand has a plethora of 'hoods.
2) Public transportation I love the idea of not dealing with parking, and letting someone else 'drive' me around the city.
3) Shopping This should actually be a reason to not move so I won't shop as much...Michigan Ave. and State St. Shopping are a short 15 min walk away....
4) Food Another reason I should avoid the move! There are so many restaurants that only the great ones make it.
5) Midwest Chicago is the New York City of the Midwest...it's cleaner, it's more friendly, and it's not overwhelmingly huge.
6) Lake Michigan There's a beach!!!
7) Diversity I'm planning on attending the Armenian festival in August in hopes of meeting a Kardashian for myself...or maybe I'll hang out in Greek Town to find my own Kostas??
8) The Skyline I love the view from my future 22nd floor apartment in South Loop. We have a fabulous view of the former Sears Tower and the Hancock building, and we can even see Lake Michigan from our balcony.
9) Walking It's great exercise and you can walk to virtually anything you may need!!! (Including Target!!!)
10) Easy Southwest Flights from KC I love visitors!!! and There's an Orange Line within walking distance!
11) Strangers My friend Alex always says "Stranger Danger" and although she makes a great point...I am so excited to live in a city where I hardly know anyone!!! Call me crazy but I think it's so exciting!!!
12) Sports teams Although I'll be farther away from my Wildcats, I can't say that I've ever had any sort of love for the Royals or the Chiefs, but I can already see myself becoming a Huge Cubs and Bears fan. Heck, I've even started following the Blackhawks!!
All in all, I'm so excited for this new chapter in my life to begin. If you ever find yourself in the Windy City, or needing a fun place to visit, please let me know!!!!
